Today in class we discussed the topics of two people that were absent Monday. We then went to our google site for our Unit and created an introduction about our project. Next we visited free teaching tools and resources and looked at the River City Water Unit. We then added a new page to our google sites for the WV Content Standards, and listed the specific CSO's I am using. We didn't have to make a blog post, but I already have one made. haha

Topic Day

Today in class we got to hear everybody's topic. Professor Pierce, as well as classmates critiqued our topics and helped guide us towards a question that wasn't too vague or too specific.

My topic question is... Slavery: How did I get here?

We then went to google and clicked on sites. Google sites is where we are going to keep our unit.

Almost Friday!

Today in class we further discussed our Module 2 projects. We went over another PowerPoint to help us understand the purpose of this project. Professor Pierce gave us an example of a project. I looked at CSO's again, and I am still leaning towards something dealing with slavery. Below I have listed the CSO I am interested in doing. It is from fourth grade history.

SS.O.4.5.7
research how and why African Americans came to America and explain the motivation behind the development of slavery.

Professor Pierce told us a website to look at called Think Finity. Click here -> Thinkfinity

Our project will live on the internet! We also looked at some sample intel projects.

Is it Friday Yet?

Today in class we discussed Undergraduate Research Projects, as well as Action Research Projects. Professor Pierce gave us tips and pointers about these projects. He highly suggested that we start working on the Action Research soon. We looked over a few Intel ranking projects in class. Then we began to go over Module 2. We will be designing a standard based project for this module. We decided that for Elementary majors we should choose a unit on social studies. We learned aout the content standards, and I also bookmarked that website on my Delicious account. Click here to see the WV Teaching Standards website. That was the main points we covered today!

It's Friday!

Today in class we...

1. Created an Intel Education Teacher Workspace.

2. Linked West Virginia CSO's into my Delicious account.

3. Used the visual ranking tool in Intel Teacher Workspace to create a ranking project.

My visual ranking activity is called "Order of Operations." In this visual ranking activity, the students will try to place the four order of operations in the correct ranking.

To do the activity you will need my ID, Team ID, and Team Password.

My ID is akelley13

Team ID's are either 1, 2, 3, 4

Team Passwords are one, two, three, four

The Glass is Half Full Problem - Applying Bloom's Taxonomy of Thinking Skills

First, I recognized the situation or the problem I am faced with. (Two glasses are each filled half-way with soda – one with cola, and the other with lemon lime. A small amount of the lemon lime is removed from the glass and put into the cola glass. The glass is stirred thoroughly so that the lemon lime is completely mixed into the cola. Then the same amount of mixture is removed from the cola glass and put back into the glass with the lemon lime)

Then I interpreted the problem and really thought everything through. I read over the question that was asked. (After the soda has been exchanged, is there more cola in the lemon lime glass or more lemon lime in the cola glass) Again, I interpreted the problem along with the question and did a mental reflection.

Next, I applied the problem into a real experiment. I modified the experiment a bit, but it will still get the same conclusion. I measured one cup of water (comparable to lemon lime) and put it in a clear glass. Then I measured one cup of diet coke (cola) and put it in a clear glass. I took out 3 tablespoons of water and stirred it into the diet coke. Then I took 3 tablespoons of the diet coke and stirred it into the water.

After I applied the problem, I then analyzed the experiment. I closely looked at the color of the two cups compared to the beginning colors. Next I tasted the two cups and compared them to the beginning taste. (There seemed to be more lemon lime in the cola, and less cola in the lemon lime)

Evaluating the experiment was the next step I took. I drew a mental picture of the problem and calculated the result. (It was straight lemon lime added to the cola. However, when cola was added to the lemon lime, there was lemon lime already mixed into the cola)

Finally, I created and produced my final answer. After testing and analyzing the problem, I believe there was more lemon lime in the cola glass.

Taxonomy Presentation

Wednesday in class we had homework assigned. I created a PowerPoint that shows Bloom, Costa & Kallick, and Marnozo taxonomys. I then chose certain points that I want to follow in my classroom.

Wednesday

Today in class we...

1. Made a 30 second Animoto video! It was lots of fun. :)

2. Discussed the thinking skills of Costa and Kallick, Bloom, and Marnozo.

3. We were assigned homework. We need to make a PowerPoint including Costa and Kallick, Bloom, and Marnozo. However, we are supposed to include the points that we believe would reinforce our specific thinking skills for our own classroom.
